Cape Town – Social media users have dragged award-winning actress Terry Pheto over old tweets she posted, joking about winning the lottery.
This came after the auction of her lotto funds built home on Thursday.
The actress’ Joburg house worth around R5 million was on auction following the outcome of the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) probe into Lotto funding.
The SIU said that the Tsotsi star’s Joburg home was built with funds linked to siphoning of the National Lottery Commission (NLC) grant funding and it was mandated to recover any financial losses suffered by the State or the NLC.
Shortly after the news of the auction, tweeps dug up old tweets dating back as far as 2010 where the actress joked about winning the lotto jackpot and disappearing on Twitter.

In another tweet, posted in 2021, she joked about disappearing on Twitter if she were to win the jackpot.
“Ge lesampone mo Twitter anymore, le itse gore ke winile Jackpot ya Powerball. (which translates to if you don’t see me on Twitter anymore, just know that I’ve won the Powerball jackpot)” read one of the old tweets.
The tweet gained so much traction, with more than 230 comments. Some social media users suggested the actress deactivate her Twitter account to avoid being trolled any further.
Pheto has, however, not responded to any of the tweets and hasn’t been active on her verified account since October last year.

The actress initially denied an of the accusations leveled against her and said she was shocked to discover that she was the subject of a SIU probe into allegations of fraud.
However, it is alleged the actress later volunteered information for the investigation in exchange for mercy, reported City Press.
Others implicated in the lotto funds looting were lawyer Lesley Ramulifho, Collin Mukondeleli Tshisimba, Fulufhelo Promise Kharivhe, AO Residence Trust represented by Mashudu Shandukani, Rasemate Family Trust represented by Rebotile Malomane, Mojakgomo Family Trust represented Thabang Charlotte Mampane (ex-lotteries boss), Unbrand properties represented by Sthembiso Jim Skosana, and Just Cuban Trust represented by Botshelo Cornelius Moloto, reported IOL.
Last year, the SIU obtained a preservation order from the High Court of South Africa to seize luxury houses, cars and two Ocean Basket franchises, The Citizen reported.
