Cape Town – “Jou ma se p***,” were the words that flung out of South African actor and bodybuilder Maurice Paige’s mouth after a Durban comedian made a joke about the murder of South African artist, AKA.
Maurice was one of the people who attended the Savanna Newcomer Showcase held at the Homecoming Centre in Cape Town, where a comedian made a joke that many would consider distasteful.
The event had been filmed for television and included 20 newcomer comedians who each had five minutes on stage to make the audience burst into continuous laughter. However, one comedian got the opposite of what he would have been hoping for.
One Twitter user claimed that she was at the show and saw Maurice stand up and shout “at the top of his lungs”.
“Actor Maurice Paige immediately stood up and shouted, from three rows behind me, ‘Jou ma se p***’ at the top of his lungs,” wrote the tweep.

According to IOL, the Durban-based comedian made the joke that sparked Maurice’s aggressive reaction shortly after he started his five-minute slot.
The Savanna Newcomer Showcase was also held on the same day as AKA’s memorial. After the joke was made, the room reportedly fell into awkward silence before the crowd started to boo the comedian.
The report said that Maurice burst into tears as he stormed out.
The actor reportedly said that AKA’s murder was something that was too sensitive to joke about.
“It’s personal for me. I knew Kiernan personally and because he is a coloured Capetonian, I felt this was going too far. I don’t think his joke was appropriate.
“You don’t make such a joke about anyone. The way he died was vicious and you can’t make a joke about the way he was taken out.
“I know comedians want to use what is relevant at that time, but not something about the way AKA was taken out. Man, that’s just too sensitive.” Maurice was quoted as saying.
