Potchefstroom – A 38-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for the alleged murder of his two-year-old stepson.
Saame Mogogane’s arrest came after an incident reported on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Tlapeng Village in Madibogo.
According to North West police spokesperson Captain Aafje Botma, it was alleged that the child’s mother left him under the care of her husband (the child’s stepfather) whilst at work.
“On her arrival at home the same day at about 18:10, she found her son laying unresponsive on the bed with multiple injuries on his body,” Botma said in a statement.

“Emergency Medical and Rescue Services (EMRS) were summoned to the scene and they declared the two-year-old boy dead on the scene. The step-father fled from the scene,” he added.
Mogogane appeared in the Atamelang Magistrates’ Court on Monday, on a charge of murder and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance before the same court on Wednesday, February 22, 2023.
The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, expressed his shock to learn of the cruel murder of such a young child.
“My child should also be your child”, Kwena said.
He also urged community members to protect the innocent and speak out on behalf of those who can’t speak out for themselves.
