Cape Town – An alleged robber was reportedly killed and another man injured in a mob justice after they allegedly robbed a woman in Tembisa.
The suspects were severely beaten with a sjambok and set alight when angry residents came to the victim’s rescue in Ivory Park Extension 9 on Tuesday, reports News24.
According to police spokesperson Sergeant Patricia Mgijima, residents heard a woman screaming for help, the report said.
She said residents arrived in numbers and assaulted and sjambokked the two men.
A 27-year-old succumbed to his injuries and burns while a 21-year-old was saved by police who removed the burning tyre from him and he was transported to hospital, said Mgijima.

She said that a decoder and cellphone were found in their possession.
Following the incident, police called on residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. No case was opened and no arrests have been made, the report said.
In a separate incident, six people were arrested in connection with the mob attack of two suspected robbers.
The suspected robbers were stoned to death after they were accused of robbing a foreigner-owned shop in Senoela village.
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe said the arrests should send out a strong message that the police will not tolerate acts of lawlessness.
