Cape Town – Johannesburg motorists helped themselves to loads of beer after an Amstel truck lost control on William Nicol Drive in Fourways, Johannesburg on Friday.
The truck’s load was scattered all over the road, resulting in the closure of some lanes.
Videos of the incident were shared on social media, showing people rejoicing while some were loading their loot into cars and taxis.
According to a statement by Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), their officers attended to the incident.

“It is alleged that the truck had lost its load which was alcohol, and members of the public started looting the alcohol which had fallen off the truck.
“It was further alleged that the truck driver left the scene before the officers arrived and at the present moment it’s unknown what caused the truck to lose its load,” read the statement.
JMPD also thanked the officers who responded to the incident for going the extra mile and cleaning the road.
