Cape Town – A pilot, who was the only occupant of an aircraft that crashed in Mpumalanga on Monday, was declared dead by paramedics shortly after they arrived on the scene of the accident.
The crash occurred on a farm in Steelpoort next to Mbombela Airport, reports said.
The departure and destination of the aircraft remained unknown.
According to the Emer-G-Med paramedics who responded to the scene found the aircraft in ruins just before 16:00.
“The pilot and only occupant was declared dead on arrival of paramedics,” said Emer-G-Med in a statement.
The emergency service said that the cause of the crash would be investigated by civil aviation authorities and the South African Police Services.

According to South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) spokesperson Sisa Majola, the accident and incident investigation division was informed of the crash at 15.41, TimesLIVE reported.
“Our investigation team is on site to start evidence collection and gather information that will define the scope of the investigation.” the report quoted Majola as saying.
“It is not clear where the aircraft departed from or its intended destination. Should a safety issue be identified the investigating team will notify relevant parties so appropriate action can be taken,” Majola was quoted as saying.
