Cape Town – Economic Freedom Fighters’ former general secretary Godrich Gardee has condemned protesters who snatched an official’s wig during a demonstration.
Gardee shared the video of the incident on his Twitter page and called for those who supported such behaviour to be “shunned”.
In the video, a woman can be seen talking to a group of what appears to be angry residents.
However, as the woman turns to speak to another group, one of the protesters behind her snatches her wig and runs off with it.
The official gives chase while the crowd laughs and mocks her.
We must normalize shunning those who humiliate a woman for whatever reason. You do not need to be a victim of gender based violence to appreciate that women abuse is not a tool of war or opposition politics & protest… currently there is war on women bodies, #StopWomenAbuse https://t.co/mZtRHvxFHA

Some social media users found the incident funny, with others suggesting the behaviour should be “normalised”.
“Normalise removing the wig of the ANC woman and buy bread with the money,” read the comment.
In response to the comment, Gardee said those who humiliate women should be shunned.
“We must normalise shunning those who humiliate a woman for whatever reason. You do not need to be a victim of gender-based violence to appreciate that women abuse is not a tool of war or opposition politics and protest,” he wrote.
Gardee also called for an end to women abuse.
“Women should never contribute to the escalation of GBV nor undermine the fight against women abuse,” he said.
