Cape Town – The grandmother of a three-year-old girl Sadie Govender, who died in a drive-by shooting in Bonela, Durban on Tuesday night is devastated following the incident.
According to IOL, Sadie and a 68-year-old relative were killed while seated in the lounge of their home, when three gunmen emerged from the front entrance and opened fire.
“The child was shot in the stomach and the man was shot multiple times. They were taken to King Dinuzulu Hospital for treatment but later died,” the report said
The other two victims were said to have escaped unharmed.
Daily News said Sadie’s grandmother Annie Govender was struggling to cope following the death of her granddaughter.
“There is no God. Why would he allow the murder of my princess?,” the report quoted Govender as saying.

She was in her bedroom when the incident occurred.
Initially, she thought there was an electric explosion in the lounge ceiling when she saw sparks.
“I didn’t realise it was a shoot-out. It happened so fast. I saw Rider and Sadie falling off the sofa. I immediately grabbed Sadie, but she was already shot. The blood was oozing from her wounds,” the report quoted her as saying.
She had hoped that Sadie would survive but unfortunately, that was not to be the case.
“There is nothing left for me here. They took my life and joy. She was my reason to live and now I am all alone,” she said, according to the report.
Sadie’s father said the family had received numerous threats.
“We have been shot at over four times in the space of three months. I am strong, but this is a lot to take in. I am so hurt. I cannot even think properly. I am devastated beyond repair,” he said.
