Cape Town – In an incident that reportedly occurred on December 8 in Stellenbosch, Faf de Klerk is alleged to have threatened to beat a Stellenbosch police captain to death with a panga.
But according to the Weekend Argus, de Klerk reportedly claimed to have been over 14 000km away at the time of the alleged incident.
The publisher reported that de Klerk denied the claims levelled against him, maintaining that he had been in Japan at the time of the alleged incident.
However, police captain Lesley Smith is adamant that it was not a case of mistaken identity, claiming that he had “clearly” seen de Klerk drive off in a Toyota Corolla after the reported incident.
De Klerk’s agent Lean Schwartz reportedly said that the Springbok scrum-half had been out of the country for two months and had “never driven a Toyota Corolla in his life”.

“He left the country with the Springboks for their end-of-year tour to Europe, where after he left London for Tokyo, Japan to join his new club, Yokohama Cannon Eagles,” Schwartz was quoted as saying.
De Klerk reportedly submitted evidence to prove that the allegations were false.
The publisher further reported that an investigation had since been opened.
“During (our) investigation, SAPS (has) not named any individual publicly … the investigating officer pursued information made available to him, in an attempt to bring to book the person responsible for the incident. This entailed a process to eliminate possible suspects,” SAPS spokesperson André Traut was quoted as saying.
According to the Weekend Argus, Director of SA Rugby and former Springbok coach, Rassie Erasmus said that it was not uncommon for players to be on the receiving end of such allegations.
“I can tell you we receive various allegations (and) stories that we don’t really react anymore, seeing that the players’ personal life is their own,” Erasmus was quoted as saying.
