Cape Town – Former member of the African National Congress (ANC), Carl Niehaus has hinted at launching a new political movement after he was expelled from the ANC last month for allegedly bringing the party into disrepute.
Taking to social media on Monday, Niehaus said he was going to launch and build a new broad civil society and political movement that will work for the full liberation of the people of South Africa.
“I have not left the liberation struggle. I have not retired. I’m more committed to the full liberation of our people and to the implementation of those ideals, those great and lofty ideals…
“In this year, we are going to continue to build a broad civil society and broad political movement that will work for the full liberation of our people, that will also work for the liberation of those many comrades in the African National Congress who have been betrayed by a rogue, sellout, white monopoly capitalist… We will fight them,” said Niehaus.
Niehaus’ expulsion came after the ANC’s national disciplinary committee (NDC) found him guilty of six charges of misconduct for contravening Rule 25 of the party’s constitution.
According to TimesLIVE, he was charged with six counts of misconduct and “foreign” ANC behaviour after he had made public remarks surrounding the arrest of former president Jacob Zuma in 2021. This was after Zuma refused to appear at the Zondo commission of inquiry.
He was then dismissed as a Luthuli House employee before being expelled from the ruling party.
Niehaus said: “We are going to show them flames.
“We are going to work. We are going to work day after day, hour after hour, until we have achieved these ideals.
“And we give notice to Cyril Ramaphosa and to the sell-outs in the dead ANC, that ANC of which they have hollowed out the cause and created something we no longer recognise.
“We are going to take them on. We are not taking them on because we hate them personally. We take them on because they have betrayed the liberation Struggle, they do not deserve to be called the leaders of the African National Congress.”

I am recharging my batteries. This New Year is going to be lit. There will be fireworks! ?✨?⭐️?. The sell out #WMC leadership of @MYANC will be dealt with.

Carl Niehaus should have just joined Manyi & Zungula at ATM. This new thing he’s starting won’t lift off the ground. This is the same guy who was holding 1 man protests. https://t.co/Xwkt8RXFev

Carl Niehaus is obsessed with his self-preservation. The ANC is NOT Carl Niehaus.
Unfortunately, the ANC will outlive him or his new “party”.
He has developed a personality cult of himself. #ANC #Carlniehaus pic.twitter.com/2oZo4zCBaB
