An inaugural renewable energy training academy has been launched in Ogun, Nigeria. Backed by green energy solutions provider Asteven Group, the facility will train students to become vendors, developers, installers, technicians and service providers of renewable energy technologies.
According to ESI Africa, the initiative is part of Nigeria’s efforts to secure its power supply to meet growing demand. Asteven Group CEO Sunny Akpoyibo says the academy will help bolster the country’s renewables workforce in line with its efforts to boost locally generated capacity and reduce reliance on imports.
It is hoped that the initiative will result in improved access to affordable and clean energy by underserved areas and consumers currently not connected to the main grid, as well as helping Nigeria reduce its carbon footprint.
