Cape Town – Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi has taken to social media to urge the public to help the South African government in the fight against hunger.
In partnership with food security company FoodForwardSA, Tunzi posted a video to her Instagram account, asking people to join her cause and sign the petition to gather 100 000 signatures.
“Hey everyone, I need your help! @foodforwardsa and I need 100 000 signatures on a petition to convince the South African government to implement a Food Donations Policy. More than 10 million tons of quality food is wasted throughout the supply chain annually, while nearly 30 million people experience food insecurity regularly each month – this policy will help us to eradicate hunger in our country. Please, share your signature by signing the petition [ foodforwardsa.org/petition ] and help us get to 100,000. Thank you,” she said in the caption of the post.

According to The Citizen, FoodForward SA’s food banking model is a cost-effective solution to addressing food insecurity while saving the environment.
The implementation of the Food Donations Policy will allow SA to recover quality, within-date food from farmers, post-harvest handlers, manufacturers, and retailers, and redistribute this food to improve food security at the household level and end malnutrition.
