Sundumbili – Police are investigating after a woman reportedly gave birth to a baby in a shopping centre toilet in KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday and allegedly stabbed the newborn to death with an unknown object.
According to an advanced life support emergency medical service and rescue provider, IPSS Medical Rescue, someone reported a woman who had apparently given birth in the toilets at the centre and may have been in need of some medical assistance.
When the medical service arrived at the centre, the woman was reportedly holding the deceased body of a baby.
“On arrival of paramedics a woman was found to be holding the body of a dead baby,” IPSS said.
Upon looking into the matter, it was discovered that the woman had killed the new-born baby.
“On further investigation, it was confirmed that the woman had given birth to the baby in the shopping centre toilets but had then apparently stabbed the baby to death with an unknown object,” the medical service said.
IPSS added that Sundumbili police were on scene to investigate the matter further and confirmed that the woman had been taken into custody.
