Cape Town – Media personality and actress Pearl Thusi has opened up about how she lost her parents while speaking on the L Tido Podcast.
During the hour and half long interview, the Queen Sono actress opened up about a lot – from her alleged fight with DJ Zinhle, rumours of her sleeping with rapper AKA and bagging new deals.
On a more sensitive side of the interview, she shared details of her parent’s passing – how they battled HIV and the stigma attached to the disease.
“My parents also went through a lot and as much as it’s important to talk about HIV and the stigmas and the fact that we have progressed so far ahead now – the last thing I need is for people to look at my parents and just think about that…” she said.
Pearl reckoned her parents put up a good fight but things got suspicious when her mother who was a nurse died from gold stones after being sick for a few weeks. Her father, however, survived for a long time although he got sick often.
“My dad survived for a long time. Mom had gold stones and for her to have died from it was apparently very suspicious,” she said.
Speaking on the stigma, she said she wished society could get to a point where we speak openly about HIV
She said stigma was rife at the time and she only found out years later that her mother died from HIV.
“It was a secret,” she said.
