Cape Town – French-Canadian musical icon, Celine Dion has taken to social media to share with her fans and followers that she has been diagnosed with a stiff-person syndrome, saying that it has been a really difficult period for her.
According to the National Institute of Neurological disorders and stroke, stiff-person syndrome (SPS) is a rare, progressive neurological disorder. Symptoms may include stiff muscles in the trunk (torso), arms, and legs; and greater sensitivity to noise, touch, and emotional distress, which can set off muscle spasms.
Subsequently, the 54-year-old singer said that she will be delaying her spring 2023 performances while eight her scheduled concerts for next summer have been cancelled.
“I’ve always been an open book and I wasn’t ready to say anything before, but I’m ready now,” said the singer
“I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time and it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through.
“Recently, I’ve been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called stiff-person syndrome, which affects something like one in a million people,” she added.
“While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this has been what’s causing all of the spasms I’ve been having.”
