Free State – A 48-year-old suspect was arrested in Bloemfontein on Friday, November 04 by the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation team in Bloemfontein for misuse of state petrol card, South African Police Services (SAPS) confirmed in a statement.
According to SAPS spokesperson, Captain Christopher Singo, the ‘irregular transactions’ were discovered during an audit.
“During April 2022, a preliminary audit was conducted at the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) offices in Bloemfontein where they discovered certain irregular transactions that were processed at a filing station in Bloemfontein. They discovered that the suspect was using the petrol card to pour diesel in his private vehicle.

” It is alleged that at the time he was using the petrol card, the vehicle was at the garage for repair. The suspect is responsible for fleet and asset at the DPP office.
“The amount of fuel paid for is estimated at more than R100 000. The incident took place during the period of December 2020 until 31 October 2022,” the Captain said.
The matter was reported to the Hawks for further investigation which lead to the arrest of the suspect. The suspect reportedly appeared before the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court on Friday where he faced charges of fraud.
