Cape Town – South African Gqom star Bongekile Simelane, popularly known as Babes Wodumo, has opened up about why she was not comfortable revealing her child on social media.
Babes and her husband Mampintsha celebrated their child, Sponge’s first birthday in the latest episode of their reality TV show, Uthando Lodumo.
In the episode, the Wololo hit maker revealed that they had kept the baby “hidden” from the public for his safety
“He’s turning one, I’m happy because he will get to interact with other people because as you know he’s always hidden,” she said.
In another episode of the show, the Gqom star went into detail about why she decided to “hide” her son.
“A lot of people don’t know this but as a new mom I don’t want my baby to be seen or touched. Some people perform strange rituals and I don’t want my baby exposed to such,” she said.
Recently the couple officially revealed Sponge’s face for the first time when the child turned a year-old.
Ever since Sponge was born, the stars have managed to keep his face off the public eye by placing emojis on their social media posts.
In the first episode of season two of their reality show, the couple shared their plans to work on making things work and unite their families.
This was after the viral video of Babes hurling insults and threatening to beat up Mampitsha’s mother after she disapproved of their wedding.
