Cape Town – Cape Town police called for the public’s help in their investigation following the kidnapping of a five-year-old girl in Athlone on Friday morning.
Abidah Dehkta was reportedly kidnapped on Friday while in a vehicle on her way to school after the driver was held up by armed men, reported IOL.
According Gatesville Neighbourhood chairperson, Fowzia Veerasamy, the little girl’s lift club picked her up at Amber court at about 07:20am, the report said.
“This is when two armed men held the driver at gunpoint, and took his cellphone and keys, and grabbed the child. He put her in a white double cab bakkie,” the report quoted Veerasamy as saying.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer, Joseph Swartbooi confirmed the incident, saying it is under investigation.

“The incident in Gatesville this morning, Friday,4 November 2022, is under police investigation. Due to the sensitive nature of the investigation, this office will not divulge any information that might jeopardise the investigation,” Swartbooi was quoted as saying.

In August, August Cape Town police launched a manhunt, after a 6-year-old boy was kidnapped by six heavily armed men while on his way to school.
Shanawaaz Asghar was snatched in front of his 9th Street home in Kensington before 08:00 on Wednesday.
The little boy was reunited with his family on Thursday night said a family spokesperson, Dawood Essack, reported EWN.
“He’s in good health. I saw a little message that he sent to his aunt and the school principal and he said ‘Tell Mrs Friday that I am glad that I won’t need to come to school tomorrow’. He’s well, he’s unharmed and in very very good spirits,” the report quoted Essack as saying.
