Cape Town – The man who brutally murdered his girlfriend’s employer after he refused to give him a R50 advance in pay for his girlfriend has been sentenced to 25 years imprisonment.
Martin Grieb, 41, was sentenced by the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Thursday after he pleaded guilty to the murder, reported IOL.
During his plea, Grieb gave details of the murder that took place in August this year, the report said.
He said he was angry when Vernon Wilton Viviers refused to give him the advance in pay and they argued before fighting at Viviers’ shop where his girlfriend worked.
Grieb said he overpowered Viviers, threw him on the floor, and sat on him before asking his girlfriend to get him a knife.

He then took the knife, stabbed Viviers and slit his throat open. They then tried to clean up the blood when private security responded to reports of a fight at the shop, the report added.
The two tried to flee the scene but were found and arrested in the nearby bushes. Following their capture, Grieb admitted to the murder of Viviers.
He further admitted that he and his girlfriend acted in common purpose during the murder.
His girlfriend has been charged and is expected to appear in court next week, the report said.
