Cape Town – Two of South Africa’s music heavyweights swapped the stage for the ring as Cassper Nyovest squared up against Priddy Ugly for a celebrity boxing extravaganza at Times Square Arena in Pretoria on Sunday night.
Billed as the “Celeb City 2” boxing match, the fight was scheduled for five full rounds of boxing but all it took was one hard right hook from Nyovest to send Priddy Ugly to the canvas which ended the fight.
After the loss, Ugly took to Twitter to express his feelings about the experience and he also gave credit to his opponent on a deserved victory.
“What an experience! Never been knocked down before, so I gotta give it to @casspernyovest – you definitely worked hard & earned your victory, well done champ! Boxing is exciting, entertaining, takes real guts, heart & discipline. Let’s continue supporting the sport!” he tweeted.
My takeaways from the fight are :
1. You get in the ring, & the game plan goes out the window – maybe from adrenaline rush & the atmosphere in the arena, I don’t know.
2. I never used my jab adequately, kept my distance or created space between us. I didn’t move efficiently.— SUN from the SOIL (@ItsPriddyUgly) October 2, 2022
3. Kept way too low & didn’t have my guard up right – Exposed the flaws in my defence.
4. I never paced the fight, maybe I was too excited ?.
5. Never mind the weight difference, my opponent had more experience & was better prepared. It was a clean victory for him, S/O!

Nyovest responded to Ugly’s tweets and expressed his respect at the fact that he was willing to step into the ring, despite having no boxing experience.
Nothing but respect champ. Everyone can tweet but not everyone can step in those four corners. You did it for the love of boxing that we both share. People will be talking about the sport for a while because of our battle tonight. Glad you could get home safe with your family. https://t.co/RG1P02Gw2j

Nyovest is clearly ready for more. SundayWorld reported that he now wants to take his rivalry with rapper AKA into the ring too.
“To AKA, I am saying wherever you are, avail yourself – let’s do it baby. This is the one fight people want to see and I don’t see it go beyond the first round,” the report quoted Nyovest as saying – much to the deafening noise of jubilation from his fans.
