Kwazulu-Natal – A pedestrian was injured after being knocked over by a driver who lost control of his car during an argument with his girlfriend in the Verulam CBD, north of Durban on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the driver of the white Toyota Yaris, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, was arrested after he ran over the pedestrian.
RUSA said its members were contacted to attend to the injuries.
“Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to a business premises at approximately 15:28 to provide medical assistance to the injured pedestrian. On arrival, the 44-year-old woman was located on the driveway of a spares shop,” RUSA said.

CCTV footage showed the Toyota Yaris travelling up Ireland Street when it suddenly veered into the opposite lane and struck the pedestrian who was walking on the pavement.
“The driver informed Reaction Officers that he was involved in a heated argument which turned physical with his partner when she grabbed the steering wheel,” RUSA said.
“The vehicle veered across the road and struck the pedestrian before it crashed into a fence. The driver was under the influence of alcohol. He was placed under arrest,” it added.
The injured pedestrian was stabilised on the scene before being transported to the hospital by ambulance.
