WATCH | ‘We are good. We are very good actually’ – Kelly Khumalo and her sister Zandie bury the hatchet

Cape Town – The icy feud between South African singer Kelly Khumalo and her sister Zandie Khumalo-Gumede seems to have thawed after Kelly indicated during a recent interview that they had since worked on their strained relationship.

The controversial singer revealed the news during an interview on Kaya 959 with host Dineo Ranaka and Sol Phenduka.

Kelly said she and her sister were no longer at war and were now part of each other’s lives again.

“We are good. We are very good actually. I think we needed that bit of a break. You know, when you are so close to another to a point where you lose self-identity, which is a dangerous thing for an individual … so I now feel like we needed that. She had to find her outside me, and I had to find me outside her.”

When Dineo related how the two sisters’ fight may have put their friends and relatives in an awkward space, the singer said she actually asked friends and relatives including her own mother to pick a side.

“I took it very personally … I called a meeting with all my friends and said, ‘Listen, you guys have to decide, and it’s OK if you chose to be part of my sister’s corner … I won’t take offence, but at least I’ll know where you stand, so you must decide,” said Kelly.

This came in the midst of the Senzo Meyiwa trial, where Zandie made it clear at one point that she was in support of her sister despite what may have happened between them.

In June, Zandile vowed to support her sister when advocate Malesela Teffo alleged that an eyewitness was set to testify that Kelly had shot Senzo by mistake.

Since then, she has slowly started talking and sharing pictures of her sister on social media.

Recently, she took to her Instagram page and shared a picture of them in white, reflecting on their journey as upcoming singers.

“One day I will tell you guys my story about how we both entered Crux Gospel Star Search when I was just 12 years old. We auditioned on different days and they didn’t know we were sisters until our mother brought us both for the next round the next day at the Crux offices. After the whole competition I became number five and she got number three, basically sahlulwa good but ke akunalutho,” Zandile captioned the picture.
