Cape Town – Mpumalanga police are reportedly investigating a double murder following the death of two friends from Boschefontein, outside Schoemansdal.
The two men, who were known to be neighbours and friends, allegedly fatally injured each other during a bloody fight at about 02:00 on Monday morning, police said in a statement.
“According to information, a 41-year-old neighbour was engaged in a fight with his 31-year-old neighbour which led to fatalities to both neighbours who are also reportedly known to be friends,” said Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.
Police received a call from a local hospital about two injured men, one had bruises to his face, a fractured jaw and hand while the other was hacked with an axe on the head, said Mohlala.

Both men reportedly died from their injuries.
“On the police’s arrival, it was established that both victims lived as neighbours and friends in Boschfontein,” Mohlala said.
The cause of their fight remained unclear.
A police investigation was under way.
Mpumalanga police commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela described the incident as “regrettable” and urged community members to not resort to violence but rather seek professional help.
“Violence is not even a point to consider especially amongst neighbours or friends who experience differences. The two deaths could have been avoided,” she said.
