Cape Town – An earth tremor measuring 3.1 magnitude hit the area of Brakpan, Springs and Boksburg on the East Rand in Gauteng in the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to an announcement made by Gauteng Weather on its Twitter page, the tremor hit the area at about 00:56 on Sunday.
Concerned residents flooded the comments section to bear witness of the incident while some were shocked to have slept right through the earth tremor.

One resident wrote: “Felt it in Benoni. Was really nice to experience it.”
Another resident wrote: “That was hectic…thought the house was collapsing.”
Some thought the tremor was caused by illegal miners blasting the underground.
