Minister Fikile Mbalula launches programme to fix potholes on SA roads

Cape Town – Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has developed a comprehensive programme called Vala Zonke to address potholes on the country’s roads.

Mbalula made the announcement on Twitter this week.

He said that the project will be led by The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL).

“Launch of operation Vala Zonke. We have developed a comprehensive programme to address potholes across all spheres of government, with SANRAL taking the lead.

“We recognise that provincial and municipal roads are not and need a decisive national strategy,” wrote Mbalula in a tweet.

The project’s main launch will take place on Monday, August 8 in Vereeniging, Gauteng.

The project is set to create more jobs and will be effective for six months.

“President has directed me that I must launch this project nationally and I must go and work with the private sector and anyone else and then also bring the necessary skill in terms of closing of potholes, so that when you close the pothole, you know you don’t do it for cameras, the pothole is closed. After two weeks when heavy rains comes the potholes open up,” said Mbalula.
