South Africa’s franchising sector plays an important role in fostering entrepreneurship. It includes small business development and job creation, and has been garnering positive growth rates.
An example of this can be found in the country’s franchising services category, which comprises 27% of the total franchising industry and has a combined turnover of more than ZAR133 billion per year.
According to the Franchise Association of South Africa, the industry contributes 11.6% to the country’s GDP, has more than 700 franchise systems and 35 000 outlets, and has created in excess of 40 000 jobs.
As reported by Business Tech, the country’s franchising services sub-sector comprises a variety of brands ranging from day-to-day necessities in the automotive and telecoms sectors, to pampering and indulgence in the beauty and cosmetics segment.
