Cape Town – Speculation over the singer, Kelly Khumalo’s safety has been doing the rounds ever since she was spotted walking around with a group of bodyguards about a month ago.
This was shortly after Advocate Malesela Teffo, who was representing four of the five accused in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, indicated that an eyewitness was set to testify that Kelly shot Senzo by mistake.
According to TimesLIVE, the singer revealed that her safety had been an issue since the murder of Senzo, who was also the father of her child.
The report said that the multi-platinum-selling musician made the revelation during the recent episode of her reality TV show Life with Kelly Khumalo.
Kelly claimed that she had received a number of death threats.

“How Thingo’s father was murdered is still a mystery to me. I’ve received a few death threats [since]. My last gig in KwaZulu-Natal, I received a threat two days before that they were going to kill me. Security for me is literally everything,” the report quoted Kelly as saying in her video diary.
This had prompted the singer to make means to ensure her safety by hiring private security, reported kaya959.
“I have my CPO, a close private officer – they are officers of the law, just private ones. So they can arrest you,” the report quoted her as saying.
The singer previously talked about how she felt let down by the law and how she did not feel protected by the law despite her life and that of her family being threatened.

“I think the lowest point for me is being let down by the law. As a SA citizen I trust and believe in the law to protect not just me, but my family and our society. But with what has happened to me, I have had my life threatened and family threatened, not once, but multiple times. And I feel like the law is not coming into place to protect and make me feel like that it is within my right to have protection for myself and family,” said she in an interview with eNCA.
The singer was present when Meyiwa was shot dead at her home in Vosloorus, Gauteng in October 2014.
In 2020, five suspects were arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
