As part of a three-phase policy reform to make Ghana’s ports competitive in Africa, the clearance of goods will soon be 100% paperless.

Speaking at the opening of the 2017 World Bank Development Finance Forum held in Accra recently, President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced that all internal custom barriers in the country will be removed to facilitate the movement of goods, while the administration has re-orientated the fiscal policy from a focus on taxation to production.

According to the African Centre for Economic Transformation, in addition to the process of formalising the economy, the country will include the implementation of a digital property-addressing system – with biometric identification cards also issued to residents this year.

Furthermore, Akufo-Addo said the government plans to issue a US$2.5 billion energy sector bond to retire the legacy debt of the industry and create space for increased investment.
