Cape Town – A job advert for a stay-in domestic worker in Cape Town has got tongues wagging on social media.
A Twitter user posted an ad on Thursday about a couple looking for a stay-in cleaner/nanny, with a monthly salary offer of R2 600.
Everything else would be provided for, according to the Twitter user.
“A couple are looking for a Stay In cleaner/nanny. Based in Parklands Monthly salary of R2600 Everything else will be provided as you will stay with them. Please email me: [email protected] if you are interested Your CV & References please,” the Twitter user wrote in a tweet.

The South African reported that a monthly salary of R2 600 equated to a pay of less than R84 per day. The report said that the amount advertised for the job was actually more than R1 100 less than the legal minimum wage requirement.

Twitter users reacted angrily to the post, with many claiming that the salary was far too low, given that the domestic worker would most likely be cleaning and babysitting 24/7.
