Cape Town – One of the convicted Nigerian nationals who were arrested for cloning conveyancers’ email accounts and stealing over R11 million from clients, is reportedly being investigated by authorities for allegedly stealing over R18 million from FNB Property Finance.
Olatunji Samson Abdul and Adedayo Quandri were convicted last week in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on charges of theft and fraud. They were sentenced to eight and seven years respectively.
“The accused used spyware and viruses to monitor emails between the law firms and their clients (property traders) that were about to do/receive transfers from the conveyancers after their properties were sold.
“They would then send their banking details to the conveyancers, as though these emails were from the property traders,” Times Live quoted National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane as saying.

In a statement, police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Philani Nkwalase said that “shortly after sentencing, Abdul was charged for fraud and money laundering worth approximately R18 million on another matter where victims’ business email were compromised and bank cards cloned”.
According to IOL, Abdul cloned the email accounts of Shujay Property Investments in 2019 and allegedly stole over R18 million.
The property investment firm was a client of FNB Property Investment and they also had a credit facility with the bank.
Abdul was accused of fraudulently giving instructions to the FNB Property Investment to release payments and faced charges of theft.
He was scheduled to appear in court on July 20, 2022, to allow for further investigation.
