Cape Town – Taxi associations and truckers in Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal reportedly protested against the fuel price increase on Wednesday and Thursday.
Fuel prices jumped by R2.37/l for 93-octane petrol and R2.57/l for 95-octane on Wednesday.
Diesel rose by R2.31/l (0.05% sulphur) and R2.30/l (0.005% sulphur).
Due to the price hike, taxis and trucks blocked off roads leading into Mbombela (Nelspruit), as well as roads in the Mbombela CBD, Times Live reported.
A blockade on the R34 and R33 between Greytown and Dundee, KwaZulu-Natal, was reported on Thursday morning.

According to IOL, police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said that the protest appeared to be organised by the taxi industry.
“It was put together by people in the taxi industry. They started at around 04:00 or 05:00 this morning.
“The roads in the CBD are now cleared and open. All of the trucks and taxis that were there are now cleared. There was no looting. The N4 towards Nelspruit is still closed,” Mohlala said, as quoted by the report.
Eight suspects were arrested on charges of public disturbance and public violence, according to Sowetan Live.
