Cape Town – The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) in KwaZulu-Natal is set to be demonstrate against the recent fuel hikes, high cost of living, unemployment, poverty and poor wages on Friday.
According to The Witness, the trade union will be joined by its affiliates and alliance partners such as the SACP, ANC, Young Communist League, Sasco, Sanco Youth, Taxi Drivers Union (Qina Mshayeli/Satdu), Cosatu Gender Structure and Cosatu Young Workers.
Cosatu KZN provincial secretary Edwin Mkhize said the fuel hikes have led to the escalation of transport costs, resulting in an increase in food prices and goods and services.

“We are taking our fight against the rising cost of living straight to the government’s door. People must remember that it was the government that first announced a cut in the wage bill of public servants a few years back, and now the private sector has followed in implementing wage cuts,” IOL quoted Mkhize as saying.
Cosatu will meet at Curries Fountain in Durban and march with a motorcade to deliver a memorandum to the premier Sihle Zikalala, said the report.
