Cape Town – South African reality star and entertainer Zodwa Wabantu reportedly said that she was upset after being banned from performing in Malawi.
Zodwa had been billed to perform at the Winter Amapiano Vibes which was said to be a first for Malawi, starting from June 10 to 11.
But the Malawian Tourism, Culture and Wildlife department censorship board reviewed some of the entertainer’s performances and deemed them “morally degrading”.
A letter from the department that was widely shared on social media said:”…We write to communicate that this Ministry has not cleared Zodwa to perform in Malawi or be part of the event in any capacity. The application for the entertainment permit has been turned down as guided by the provisions of the Censorship and Control of entertainment Act,” reads the letter.

According to Times Live, Zodwa responded to the letter, saying that she was used to drama and was unfazed by the Malawian government’s decision.
“We don’t stop, we are onto the next. We always have something to do we have problems that we need to fix. When one door closes, another one opens it’s not bad on us. I think the minister has bigger problems than t my a** being on stage. As a country, as Malawi, I don’t know what they lack. Maybe they lack water or resources they should focus on that imagine a whole minister who has seat in government and then he gets involved in entertainment and for tourism.
“If you don’t want me I don’t want you too. I’m fully booked. I’m still getting bookings. So there’s nothing I’m going to change. It’s just drama and I know drama loves me. I have an award for drama queen, so it’s part of who I am,” said Zodwa as quoted by the report.
This was not the first time that Zodwa was denied entry into a neighbouring country, according to The South African.
In 2017 she was banned from performing at an event in Zimbabwe and in 2018 she was denied access to Zambia.
