April marks the beginning of the construction of Africa’s tallest building. The landmark construct in Kenya will consist of 67 floors and reach a height of more than 300m – surpassing that of the current holder of the tallest building-record, Johannesburg’s Carlton Centre, which has 50 floors and stands at 223m.
Set to be built in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area, Hass Towers will be a mixed-use development, comprising Grade-A offices and a five-star Hilton Hotel, as well as a luxury retail and entertainment complex, as reported by Capital Business.
The Hass Petroleum Group recently signed an agreement with the China State Construction Engineering Corporation to build the development after going through what has been described by its chairman, Abdinassir Ali Hassan, as a ‘rigorous tender system’ involving more than 10 international companies (including European, Turkish and other Chinese firms).
It is hoped the development will help drive regional and economic development and promote investment into Kenya.
