Cape Town – A 13-year-old girl from KwaNzimakwe in KwaZulu-Natal reportedly dies due to brutal assault by church members who were trying to rid her of “evil spirits”.
Reports indicated that the girl was held hostage at the church along with four other girls from 25 May to 29 May.
The children were allegedly beaten up by a local pastor under the guise of an exorcism.
Church members reportedly tried to conceal the girl’s death.
According to Times Live, the office of provincial social development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza revealed the horrific details of the incident.

“A 13-year-old girl died as a result of the brutal assault while four other children were freed. It is alleged that those involved in the assaults and torturing of children attempted to conceal the death. It is alleged that church elders tampered with the crime scene, including moving the surviving children to other rooms and they were eventually released to their respective parents,” the report quoted Khoza’s office as saying.
The four children who survived the ritual were reportedly taken to a place of safety and the MEC was expected to visit the family of the deceased on Monday, reported The South African.
In 2020, two 9-year old girls were allegedly killed in a bizarre exorcism ritual in Ezimambeni in rural KwaZulu-Natal to ward off “evil spirits” that were “forcing them to drink blood”.
