Durban, South Africa offers the best rental return on investment in the world. This is according to a recently released index that – in a bid to better understand global variations in real estate prices from an investment perspective – compares Airbnb with traditional rentals in terms of the length of time it takes to recover the value of a property.
As reported by Times Live, research conducted by UK-based online estate agency Nested found that a Durban property ‘would take 167 months to recuperate value via traditional rental methods compared to 18 months via Airbnb‚ which was the shortest time period worldwide’.
Lagos, Cairo and Johannesburg also appeared in the top five spots, whereas Cape Town ranked 12th worldwide – making it the slowest city in South Africa to recoup investment costs.
