Cape Town – Operation Dudula movement reportedly launched its Western Cape branch in Cape Town on Saturday.
According to eNCA, Operation Dudula is a nationwide campaign committed to rooting out undocumented migrants and putting South Africans first.
It began in Gauteng a few months after the July riots that erupted when former president Jacob Zuma was sentenced to jail for contempt of court, IOL reported.
The movement is led by 36-year-old Nhlanhla ‘Lux’ Dlamini.
At least 250 people, mostly Dudula members from other provinces, marched through the Cape Town streets, singing anti-foreigner songs, according to Times Live.
The movement members handed over a memorandum to the Cape Town police station and were scheduled to hand over another to the Department of Home Affairs, however, there was no official available to receive it, the report said.

The Democratic Alliance (DA), however, called on residents to reject and stand against Operation Dudula in the city.
“The DA in the Western Cape rejects the planned launch of Operation Dudula in Cape Town this weekend. Whilst everyone is indeed entitled to the right of peaceful assembly, this organisation forms part of the concerning trend of xenophobia and Afrophobia that is spreading across South Africa.
“We call on all residents of the Western Cape to stand against the hatred, intolerance and vigilantism that xenophobic organisations and politicians use for cheap politicking and short-term gain,” said the DA in a statement earlier.
