Cape Town – Defence advocate Malesela Teffo, who is representing four of the men accused of murdering Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa was on Friday granted R10 000 bail.
This was after he was arrested on Thursday as court proceedings in Meyiwa’s murder trial adjourned in the Pretoria High Court.
According to EWN, Teffo made his way into the dock at the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court wearing the exact same attire he wore when he was apprehended.
Reports indicated Teffo was arrested because he had missed a previous court appearance. A warrant of arrest was issued for Teffo in January after he failed to appear in court for trespassing.
Through his attorney, advocate Tshepo Thobane, Teffo told the court that he skipped the January 27 court date because he had Covid-19, IOL reported.
The court cancelled the warrant of arrest, and postponed the hearing for the unspecified offence to May 27, the report said, adding that Teffo reportedly faced charges of trespassing, after he allegedly visited the SAPS offices in Gauteng.
The case was unrelated to the Meyiwa murder trial, according to reports.
Teffo will return to the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court on 27 May.
