Cape Town – One SA Movement leader Mmusi Maimane has urged President Cyril Ramaphosa to take decisive action in the country’s schools after a video in which learners could be seen smoking what is believed to be marijuana went viral on social media.
A second video showed learners in brawl in a classroom.
“Take note @Ramaphosa. We need decisive action in our schools. How long shall you sacrifice the future of our youth,” Maimane wrote in a tweet.

He lamented that South African schools were falling apart and called for Minister of Education Angie Motshekga to be fired.

Meanwhile, Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi also tweeted and said that the learners captured in the video smoking dagga had been suspended from school.
“{The 36 Leondale High School learners captured on video smoking dagga within the school premises have been removed and suspended from the school. Their disciplinary hearing will be held on Monday.”
