Cape Town – South African award-winning Zulu rapper, Siyabonga “Big Zulu” Nene’s visit to renowned Ndebele artist Esther Mahlangu has drawn mixed reactions.
Big Zulu visited Esther at her home in Mpumalanga on Monday.
His visit came following an incident in which the 87-year-old Ndebele artist was left unconscious after she was physically assaulted before being robbed of her firearm and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Translated from IsiZulu to English, Big Zulu wrote in an Instagram post: “I feel so blessed today… It’s a great joy and blessing to me that I finally made it to Gogo Esther Mahlangu’s homestead. She said she would like to customise a Carvela for me …Thank you so much KwaNdebele”.

Tweeps reacted to Big Zulu’s meet-up with Esther, with many chastising him, saying that he just wanted to raise his public profile.
However, some came to his defence, saying that he was naturally a big-hearted person who genuinely cared about others.

I think people forget that other people can be caring and mindful of others, Yes he went to see Ugogo and probably a lot of officials and artists have been going to see her she’s a national treasure, so I don’t see a problem with this especially if she opened up to Big Zulu.
