Cape Town – The Gqeberha Commercial Crimes Court reportedly convicted Rhodes University’s former financial administrator Wendy Zimasa Xabiya, 32, of fraud, forgery, money laundering and the contravention of Prevention of Organised Crime Act last week.
According to Times Live, Xabiya was employed as a finance administrator at the Makhanda based university in the Eastern Cape (Rhodes University) between January 1, 2017 and December 1, 2018.
During her tenure, Xabiya processed fraudulent travel and subsistence claims before unlawfully moving the money to fraudulent accounts for her own enrichment.

It wasn’t long before the University noticed the abnormality and referred the matter to the Gqeberha based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team for probing, according to News24.

Xabiya will be sentenced on June 20.
