Cape Town – South Africa has recorded a total of 3 709 209 Covid-19 infections, with 2 120 new cases identified in the past 24 hours, the National Department of Health said on Friday.
The increase represents a 6.2% positivity rate after 24 977 tests were conducted.
At least seven Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing the total fatalities to 99 939 since the discovery of the virus in the country.
“As of today, the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 709 209 with 2 120 new cases reported. Today 07 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 99 939 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stands at 3 595 512 with a recovery rate of 96.9%,” said the health department in a statement.

The majority of new cases were from Gauteng (35%), followed by Western Cape (25%), and Kwa-Zulu Natal (21%).
