Cape Town – South Africa recorded 1 671 new Covid-19 infections on Friday after 22 225 tests were conducted, said the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD).
This increase represents a positivity rate of 7.5%.
A further 28 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 99 709.
“22 225 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 1 671 new cases, representing a 7.5% positivity rate. Today @HealthZA reports 28 deaths; of these 6 occurred in the past 24-48 hours. Total fatalities are 99 709 to date,” said the NICD in a statement.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases since the start of the pandemic in the country now stands at 3 691 962.
The majority of cases reported in the last 24 hours were from Gauteng with 520 newly recorded cases, followed by Western Cape (439), and KwaZulu-Natal(292).
