Cape Town – South Africa has recorded a total of 3 686 556 positive cases of Covid-19, with 1 436 new cases identified in the past 24 hours, said the National Department of Health on Tuesday.
At least 16 deaths have also been reported, bringing the total number of Covid-19 related deaths to 92 112 since the pandemic hit the country.
“As of today, the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 686 556 with 1 436 new cases reported. Today 16 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 99 625 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stands at 3 569 441 with a recovery rate of 96.8%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 26 016 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 5.5%.
Gauteng accounted for the majority of cases with 505 new cases, followed by Western Cape (334) and KwaZulu-Natal (257).
“26 016 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 1 436 new cases, representing a 5.5% positivity rate. Today @HealthZ reports 16 deaths; of which 0 occurred in the past 24–48 hours,” NICD said.
