Cape Town – South Africa has recorded 1 853 new Covid-19 infections and 41 new Covid-19 related deaths, the National Department of Health said on Thursday.
This brings the cumulative number of positive cases to 3 679 539 since the pandemic hit the country in March 2020.
“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 679 539 with 1 853 new cases reported. Today 41 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 99 499 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 554282 with a recovery rate of 96.6%,” the department said in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 28 302 tests were conducted with a 6.5% positivity rate.
The majority of new cases are from Gauteng (650), Western Cape (420), and KwaZulu-Natal (369).
“28 302 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 1 853 new cases, which represents a 6.5% positivity rate. Today @HealthZA reports 41 deaths; of which 2 occurred in the past 24–48 hrs. Total fatalities are 99 499 to date,” NICD said.
