Cape Town – A 17-year-old boy is reportedly facing sexual assault and common assault charges after he was arrested by police recently for violently imposing advances on a 15-year-old girl in Giyani, Limpopo.
According to TimesLive, the victim reported the attack to the principal’s office after the perpetrator continued to assault her while threatening to beat her until she dropped out of the school or loved him – in order for her to have peace.

“After the ordeal, police were summoned to the premises and upon their arrival, the suspect jumped over the school fence and fled the scene. A manhunt for the suspect was launched and led to his apprehension within a short period of time,” the report quoted police representative Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo as saying.
According to the University of WitsWatersrand (WITS) young women in particular, are affected by sexual violence and one of the places they are most vulnerable at is at school.
“In South Africa, many learners are sexually harassed and abused by their teachers or other learners. Though the severity of the problem is well known, its actual prevalence is difficult to determine as many cases go unreported. What is clear is that this harassment and abuse have a devastating impact on the health and education of the mainly female learners who experience it,” said the institution.
