Cape Town – A 68-year-old man was reportedly killed at the ATKV Buffelspoort resort in North West while attempting to protect his family from three people who entered the villa where they were sleeping on Thursday around 01:00.
According to News24, when the suspects entered the villa, they got into an argument with the man.
“A confrontation ensued while the victim was trying to protect his family,” the report quoted the police as saying.
The suspects then fired several shots and killed him.
They reportedly fled the scene with two cell phones.
In a statement, the resort expressed its condolences to the family and said it was collaborating with the police to have the perpetrators apprehended.
“It is with great sadness that ATKV Buffelspoort takes note of the tragic shooting that took place on the resort in the early hours of Thursday morning, 17 February. ATKV Buffelspoort offers our greatest sympathies and compassion for the deceased family.

“Although at this time ATKV Buffelspoort cannot comment on how exactly the attackers gained access to the unit, the ATKV is working closely with the local police and the community policing forum to investigate the matter,” said the resort.
It also reassured current and prospective guests that the resort had increased security and was open for business as usual.
Police urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the investigating officer, Job Monnagaratoeon, on 072 092 2348.
