Cape Town – Social media was abuzz over the weekend, with Somizi Mhlongo’s fans calling for his come back on the judging panel of Idols SA.
Somizi’s absence was felt by the majority of those who watched the first eight of the top 16 contestants perform live on Sunday.
“Somizi can’t be replaced. The show is like vanilla without him,” wrote @princekmentor on Twitter.
“Somizi wherever you are, you are missed,” wrote another fan, @KinqBozziSA.
M-Net last week revealed the plan going forward for the judging panel of Idols SA after Somizi stepped down as one of the judges amid abuse claims against him by his estranged husband Mohale Motaung.

Mohale alleged in an audio recording that was leaked recently that Somizi abused him physically and emotionally during their relationship.
He claimed that Somizi broke his ribs and nearly knocked out his two teeth in a jealously-fueled domestic dispute in their Joburg home last year.
Somizi had appeared in season 17 of the singing competition at the height of the controversy because all episodes were pre-recorded.
M-Net said that guest judges would be rotating for the rest of the season to replace Somizi, who is also a choreographer and cookbook author.
Singer Lady Du was the first in the hot seat.
While some praised Lady Du, many wanted their all-time favourite, Somizi back.
