Namibian President Hage Geingob says he delayed getting a Covid-19 vaccine after doctors advised him not to take the AstraZeneca jab that was available locally – due to his age and condition.
“They (doctors) tested me and said given my age and also my conditions like blood pressure and so on, that I can get Johnson & Johnson or Pfizer, and both we didn’t have here,” said Geingob.
He said had to request for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine from neighbouring South Africa.

According to The Namibian, the 79-year-old president and his wife Monica tested positive for Covid-19 on May 26.
“I am now immune, by the way. I cannot transmit but I am still testing positive, by the way. I was at first scared of that but the doctors told me not to worry about that. I thank God [for] prayers I was getting from my people and messages from all over the world,” he said,” Geingob said.
According to BBC, Namibia has had a spike in coronavirus cases, reporting more than 1 000 cases daily in the last two weeks.
More than 100 000 people have been vaccinated, the report said.
