Social media users have taken to Twitter to express their sadness following the death of US actress Lisa Banes.
Reports indicated that Banes, 65, best known for her role in the movie Gone Girl, died 10 days after a hit-and-run by a scooter in New York.
AFP quoted the New York Police Department as saying that Banes was struck as the two-wheeler ran a red light while she was “attempting to cross from west to east on West 64th street”.
Investigations were currently under way but no arrests had been made.
A report by AP said that Banes died at Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital.
Banes lived in Los Angeles and was married to Kathryn Kranhold, a contributing reporter for the Centre for Public Integrity, the report said.
Banes appeared in numerous television shows and movies, including “Gone Girl” in 2014 and “Cocktail” with Tom Cruise in 1988. On television, she had roles on “Nashville,” “Madam Secretary,” “Masters of Sex” and “NCIS”.
Friends and colleagues mourned Banes on Twitter.
This is how I will always remember Lisa Banes. We shared a cottage in San Diego, 1982, SD Old Globe Shakespeare Festival. Our first dinner in our little house as we struggled to cook dinner! With Lisa everything was an adventure. pic.twitter.com/AFX2XfZBR1

My heart is so sad at the passing of Lisa Banes. I had the fortune to work with Lisa on GONE GIRL, and she was vibrant, keen, and wildly charming. Basically she would have intimidated the hell out of me if she hadn’t been so truly kind. Love to her wife, family and many friends. pic.twitter.com/pYxu4mg42S

RIP Lisa Banes, a superb actress and much beloved, especially by the theater community. I only knew Lisa a bit, but I treasured her performances and her elegant, generous style. Terribly sad news about Lisa Banes. She was a consummate actor who commanded the stage. We worked together on China Beach & I wish there had been more. My heart goes out to her wife and family. pic.twitter.com/gn9XRKhT7H
